Grammarly Review

What is Grammarly?

Grammarly is an app or extension for your browser that checks your grammar, spelling, plagiarism, and more in real-time on a number of different platforms, including Microsoft Word, WordPress, Facebook, and more.

It checks for:

Grammar and punctuation: It detects grammar and punctuation mistakes – basic to advanced. It also provides suggestions and guidelines on how to correct these mistakes.

Spell Check: It’s also a robust spell check tool.

Plagiarism: Grammarly detects plagiarism, by comparing your writing to billions of pages across the web.

Writing Style: It will also help you self-edit your work by providing insights about your readability score, sentence-length and so on. This is extremely helpful for adapting your writing style for a particular audience.

Grammarly Benefits

There are many reasons Grammarly has exploded its growth in recent years. These are a few of many benefits this writing software has to offer.

#1 – Real-time grammar correcting

This is fantastic and has changed the game when it comes to checking your work and editing faster.

Instead of writing everything out and then clicking the “check spelling and grammar” button, you’ll know right when you make a mistake that you have, in fact, made an error.

You might be wondering why this is so great when you can just check it after you’re done.

Have you ever forgotten to hit that button when you spent a ton of time drafting something very important? Because I have.

And let me tell you, if I could see the errors as they happen, I can change them right away, resulting in a cleaner final result.

Plus, it’s all automatic. You don’t have to click a button for Grammarly to do its job.

#2 – Highly accurate

This grammar software doesn’t make a whole lot of mistakes. Occasionally, it can misunderstand what you’re trying to say or put a comma where you don’t necessarily need or want one, but overall, it has a high rate of accuracy.

And when you’re checking grammar, accuracy is always best. Just be aware of why it’s asking you to change something and only accept if it’s correct.

#3 – Easy to understand explanations

Grammarly doesn’t just tell you when something is wrong. While that would totally be okay, this program goes a step further with explanations so you can understand in order to learn and improve.

So not only are you getting the benefit of your writing being polished in real-time, but you’re also learning how to become a better writer.

How does Grammarly compare to a human proofreader?

Grammarly is really efficient for people who write emails and articles on a regular basis and want to get feedback quickly. It provides instantaneous checking. However, you may not want to use Grammarly for a book-length manuscript or an academic paper as the software tool may miss the more subtle errors and not understand the deeper context of the document. For writing you need to be absolutely flawless, it may still be better to get a human proofreader.

However you can use the Grammarly dashboard to send your work to a human proofreader for USD0.02 a word.

How Effective is Grammarly for Proofreading English?

Grammarly has the ability to proofread and grammar check a document for both British English and American English.

If you’ve written in both, you may know the pain of scanning drafts looking for instances of “realise” and “realize” or “centre” and “center”… and Grammarly provides a great feature to check for both.

Still, you will need some understanding of english to use or write in Grammarly. There’s a Grammarly handbook with helpful grammar tips to assist you if you’re having trouble with the language.

If English is your first language, Grammarly is a useful tool because it teaches the finer points of grammar.

For non-english native speakers, Grammarly is still a good tool if English isn’t your first language or if you don’t write articles, blog posts or emails that often. However, it’s an aid for learning english grammar rather than a teacher of english.

What Are The Other Grammarly Options And Alternatives?

A couple of other solutions and alternatives to Grammarly include: WhiteSmoke, PaperRater, JetPack and Ginger.

I haven’t used these other services personally, so I don’t have much of an opinion of them at the moment.

But, I would say, if you’re looking for a solid solution for detecting grammar errors, I would start with Grammarly.

Then, if you are unsatisfied for any reason, or would like to see what they experience is like with the other services, you can try them afterwards, and decide which one you prefer.

How Much Does Grammarly Cost?

Here’s how much Grammarly costs for each version:

VersionPrice
Free$0 – free lifetime access
Premium$29.95/month billed monthly$19.98/month billed quarterly$11.66/month billed annually
Business$15/month for each user

If you need advanced capabilities, with as many helpful features as it offers in addition to what you get for free, paying a pretty penny is totally worth it.

In Summary

Grammarly is a simple but extremely valuable solution.

it’s free to use and the premium versions are extremely affordable.

If you’re struggling with grammar and spelling and Microsoft Word isn’t enough to catch all your errors…

…and you have to send out important emails regularly and you don’t want to look like a grown adult who can’t spell…

I would encourage you to sign up for Grammarly and try it out.
